Lee was born in Stevenage in 1987 and started singing at the age of 8 at St Mary’s Church, Hitchin under David Atkinson. The Head Chorister at the time was Iain Farrington who has gone on to a distinguished career in music. After moving to St Andrew and St George in Stevenage in 1999, Lee carried on singing but learnt to play the organ there and became Organist in 2002 until 2005 when he left for university in Nottingham to study German, Italian and English as a foreign language. In Nottingham, Lee spent a short period of time in the choir at St Mary’s on High Pavement before joining the music team at St Peter’s in the city centre as Associate Organist during his PGCE in 2010. Lee enjoyed this role very much and he learnt a lot from the Director of Music, Dr Peter Siepman, particularly how to run a choir rehearsal and structure a musical programme. This has come in useful as he has been Director of Music at St Denys’, Sleaford since 2019 and Musical Director of the Diocesan Ladies’ Choir of Lincoln since 2024. Other roles have included Area Lead for the RSCM in Lincoln and member of Mercia Chorale. Lee enjoys his work with the DLC and hopes that a more direct relationship with the Diocese of Lincoln will see the choir’s reputation continue to thrive as it aims to carry out its purpose in bringing music to those areas of the Diocese where music is needed.
